Man. Now I'm wondering if there's a way to develop goggles that let them go out in the daytime without a 100% chance of being blinded.
Also, this further explains why Chimenticores stick together. Some of them CAN'T go outside, or possibly even see a bright spotlight, safely. And that seems like the nicer version of this sort of problem, with more light sensitive Chimenticores being burned by the sun too. :/

Welders glass is rated at different levels: some high enough to make viewing the Sun safely.
Certainly Lady Bane could have R&D make them specific to these citizens ðŸ˜

Technically, but how brave would you be about going out with only a few millimeters of plastic between you and permanent blindness? They get knocked askew or aren't a perfect enough fit to completely block out the light and that's that. Goggles can get snagged on things, or the wind can blow them askew, or someone could just bump you. So, technically yes. But you won't find many chimenticores willing to risk it.

I'd want some pretty heavy duty straps on that mask though, as a slip and fall or someone trying to play an unwitting prank could still expose the eyes to the sun.
Hence why most of the chimenticores with eye black stay in the tunnels. "Safe" is relative when it only takes a few seconds to lose your eyes.

On the upside, a moonlight night is quite pretty!

Just wear polarized goggles, and don’t look at the sun. Problem solved.
