Within the last year I lost My mother, One of my father's cats, and one of my college professors who was a huge inspiration for teaching me how to make parts of the Chirrs. He was by far my favorite teacher, Ever. While my mother's loss brought mixed emotions (in recent years we drifted apart and there was a great deal of conflict and resentment that honestly never got resolved) All three were heart breaking and on different levels of earth-shattering to my life.
Because of these losses, this was not easy for me, this was not an easy scene to draw, it was not an easy scene to write. Sagitar as a character, as well as Paria have existed well before Isla Aukate in another story that has long since been abandoned. (Which sadly even then their relationship was also unhealthy and abusive.) I have had these characters in my head for at least eight years. It was because of that I wanted to give Sagitar, and Paria a sendoff they both deserved as another symbolic way of me personally moving ahead with my new works and new characters. Not all the remnants of old projects will die when they're introduced into this story. (Wolfbane was a part of the same story Sagitar and Paria came from, I could say Fox was too but the character who shared her name couldn't have been more different in rank and temperament.)
Aileeron comes from an even older story, one of the first I ever wrote. And I don't see him leaving (dying) anytime soon. (though all that remains of the original character is the name and "white lion" species and some of his political leanings. The original Aileeron was outwardly noble, heroic, and much softer spoken than the angry Russian/german poser we see in this incarnation but I find his new character flaws that much better for him as a character. His original incarnation also died halfway through the first book I attempted to write. I figure sparing him for the foreseeable future was the least I could do.
There's more. There's so much more. Going though and recycling old characters, Heroes have become Villains and Vice Versa. I'll be happy to expound more on that as we get closer to introducing them.
