@philthecorgi, It is a rule that Shakespeare also employed when you can see rather nicely in "the play" after Macbeth and his wife murder the king, there's a comedic scene with a drunk night watchman to help lighten the mood a little. And that's just one example of where he used some small bits of comedy after heavy scenes.
