Yep.., Loneliness… Not really feeling as if she fits in.

I bet she'd be truly surprised to know just how many lives she's touched and had a positive effect on, in the Lair.

I'm quite sure that she knows, in some fashion. But the fact remains that she is the only Dire around, as far as we know. I'm guessing that there are things only other Dires can understand, experiences that can only be fully shared with another Dire. Paria's death hit Bane pretty hard, and is also a reminder that a Dire's life is, in a way, at the mercy of the Host. And nobody likes to be reminded of their own mortality, in any way, shape, or form.

Tamara, maybe I'm wrong but I seem to recall that when the Darnathi agent tried to kill the American president, he was killed by a "pet" that Fox gave her. Fox commented about how the "pet" would protect the president with its life. Could that have been a Dire? It's never actually stated in so many words, though.

As far as I remember, it's not the same kind of Dire than Bane or Paria. Unless I'm mistaken, the pet is called a Labaradire, so, some sort of labrador mix, but not really a Dire. The American President didn't go through the same experiences than Fox, Darius and our dear Sagitar...

Fox could explain it way better than me.

Fox actually posted a great beginners guide to Dires here on her FA.  Going by that I would say what you're talking about is a False Dire.
