I will 100% confirm that they use prototypers to change sompaths into Dolphoria. It is a way for them to retain their sane mind which would otherwise be overridden by their rogue empathy. The alternative is them either wasting away in an asylum or being executed because the quality of their life would be next to non-existant. At least as a Dolphoria they would have quality of life and in a different way, be able to help other people which is what most empaths in Darnathi society do. They're breeding a doctor class.

Okay. It makes a lot more sense now, and is (far, far, FAR) less cruel that it seemed at first glance.  

It's disconcerting, but it makes more sense than execution or isolation and insanity.  

It also makes me want to hug all the Dolphoria, especially the former Sompaths.

Yeah it's a known issue and one I hope to fix with the upcoming overhaul.
