"Wind speed is still holding steady, so that's not going to affect our turning or the frame stress" Shard said keeping an eye on his instruments. Truth be told he was rather hoping something might happen to put the ship through it's paces. and So far this was doing the trick nicely, and to add to that so crew was handling everything fine as well. The good Professor had chosen well when she picked out the crew.

The Dressel was just coming out of her turn. The monitor points were returning to green status, and their speed held where it had been set.

"Overall a good start. Captain to crew, we're going to reset and start the second round of testing, prepare to..."

Mark's tablet bleeped an emergency tone to him. he picked it up and answered the video call.

"M'Rega here."

"Commander M'Rega, this is Ops Control Center. We just received a call from one of our freighters. The Ailani struck the reef just inside the outside contact null zone. Either the reef shifted in the last storm or their navigation was off. They're taking on water fast, Their lifeboat is damaged and the crew is too big for the chimenticores to evacuate them all right now. Can the Dressel pick up 28 humans for transport to Noema?"


Mark, remembering the layout and accommodations, nodded to the tablet.

"Yes we can Ops. Send us the coordinates and we'll be on our way."

As the coordinates pinged into his tablet, he sent them on to the helm station and addressed the crew.

"All hands, rescue stations. We have an emergency call to rescue 28 sailors on board a freighter in trouble. Prepare to pick up and transport. Helm, come right to zero eight zero, Engineering, here's our test. Full speed ahead."

Archeus was coming out of the Hydraulic skid control room when she saw the emergency lights trigger on and heard the General quarters call.
Her eyes narrowed as she raced back to the bridge.

"Trouble Commander?" She asked Mark. She didn't wait for a response before reactivating her engineering station.
"Razzle lets go ahead and get the foils extended!"

Archeus walked over to Shard and sat beside him. "OK things have changed a bit. We need to get our turbines up to speed."
She pulled up a screen that showed the ships turbine blowers in detail. "It's really pretty simple." she said. "This station here will allow you to throttle how much power is going to the blowers. Mr Razzle will be calling off what he needs as he steers to the coordinates, you'll do fine" She smiled as she walked back to her station.

Archeus was back at her station watching the Foils articulate into place.
Once in place she began rotating them from Vertical to Horizontal.

"Razzle forward momentum at helms control."

Up until now the ships movements had been slow and steady, and it carried out its graceful maneuvers in explicable quiet.
But now as the turbines began to roll up the crew could feel the floor beneath them start to vibrate, and a reasonace began to come ove the superstructure. It began at the Stem and rolled all the way to the Stern. The beast seemed to becoming alive as it roiled.
Archeus began to call out the speed. "50km, 75Km, 100Km, 120Km, 140Km."

The clouds had begun to zip buy as the ship plowed through them.
Faster and faster she continued to gain speed,

Garran was enjoying the trip in the deeper parts of the ship, monitoring the belly of the beast. On an oversized tablet in his hands data was continually streamed, about the state of the engines, hydraulics, stress at the most important joints. As far as first tests go, things were going fairly well.
"Careful with the maneuvers" he phoned the main bridge, "this girl should be able to take a beating, in theory, but better safe than sorry." He checked on the tablet the warning reports. "Seems everything's fine, we'll run a few more stress tests on the structure when we'll return home. A pair of beams probably carry too much weight during maneuvers."

A ping notified the change of plans with a rescue. Nice! The ship would already make a good impression on the Overlord. He was going to check the weather on the route when he felt the jolt of the ship, and the rumble of the whole structure. Even sealed from the rest of the ship, the turbine could be heard accelerating more and more. He checked the speed and rpm increasing on the tablet, eyes wide. He called the main bridge again. "Archy! Commander! What's the situation? Are you accelerating purposefully?"

Mark heard the call from Garran White down in the engineering space. he keyed the intercom and replied.

"We're going to full speed. Notify the Bridge if anything is trying to break, but we need all speed."

He noted the location of the stricken ship. They still had a way to go, but if they nudged a bit to the east, they could circle around once they slowed and come in into teh wind and right over the ship.

"Helm, come right ten degrees."

Archeus was continuing to call out the speed "150Km, 160Km, 170Km!!!"
Archeus looked over to Mark.

"Commander we're at 85% turbine capacity. We're nearing 185 Kilometers per hour. That's the design maximum of the superstructure. I'm not showing any turbine vibrations in excess of their design specs. But we are getting Very close."

The ship continued to plow forward like an Avalanche. The superstructure was reasonating with what could only be described as a gallop.

"I believe it's entirely possible we may reach 200Km per hour but that's way past red line."

Archeus took her paw to loosen her uniform collar as she coughed lightly.

Archeus had put her headset on, she keyed the the tx button.

"Garran we had not planned the high speed test for another month, but this emergency just scrapped our time table.

I flew over the ship just prior to this everything looked good an hour ago.

We are at 87% turbine capacity and still gaining.
My biggest concern is the shock absorbers on the Foils they're under pretty good amount of strain from all the forward velocity.

Can you check them out?"

Mark heard the Professor's callout and made a quick decision. If they broke the airship, they couldn't very well rescue anyone. Just like he'd read on the vids about ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars being so eager to get to the scene of trouble they crashed.

"Engineering, hold speed here until we can make sure the foils will take more. Helm, ETA to the Ailani at this speed?"

Mark had that information right at his fingertips on his command display, but he wanted to get the bridge crew used to feeding the info to him verbally in case he wasn't at the command station when he needed it.

The sphinx grimaced. That was not safe. They still had too much to test. He kept walking back and forth, the continuous vibrations were driving him mad.

"Down here the vibrations are very intense. I trust our work, but this will put a strain on the whole structure, so watch out. Try decreasing the speed as soon as possible."

He touched a wall. It almost felt like it was pulsating. He glanced worried at the bulge of the turbine and gripped the tablet stronger. He already lost an arm to science, he hoped not to lost more pieces.

"Checking the shock absorber, Archy. I'll have the results in a second" Garran phoned the tiger. He scrolled the graph of the ship on the large tablet, and displayed the foils structures with all the available data. Left side, all the shock absorbers were giving values under the danger threshold. Right side all looked good, except for one that was obstinately on a zero.
Garran sent Archeus the data, then called her again. "Foils seem good. I'm gonna check that rebellious shock absorber, let's see if I can understand the problem from the inside. At this speed I wouldn't be able to check the foil from outside."

Back on the Bridge Shard had give the engines as much power as he and Razzle dared. the ship was now pulling very impressive speeds as it made it's way towards it's destination. While waiting for the cue to drop the speed, Shard was again watching the wind speed instruments the readouts were staying steady but he began to notice they were changing the nearer they got to the site of the distress call. "Wind speeds are rising the closer we get to the distress call." he called out to both Razzel and Commander M'Rega.
