Apex is a regular draft horse with kelpie heritage, hence why he has fangs, is carnivorous, is very good at fishing, and is a little more comfortable swimming than most horses. (Of which horses are actually pretty comfortable swimming.) None of his family is even sure when the kelpie heritage came into the family, just that it was a decent number of generations back.

Apex is also, and I quote: "A big ol' marshmallow! Except when someone deserves his anger." The fire elementals and their allies can testify to that. Well, the survivors can testify.
